Home Depot employees pitch in to help homeless veterans
A team of dedicated employees from several area Home Depot stores recently joined forces with Long Island-based nonprofit General Needs to assemble 140 duffel bags with essential items such as socks, underwear, towels, and toiletries, to be distributed to veterans in need.

“We are grateful to Home Depot and their employees for giving up their time to help us provide much needed personal care items to men and women who have served in our military, but now have fallen on hard times,” said Lonnie Sherman, who along with his wife Susan, co-founded General Needs to help unhoused veterans.
Since its founding in 2008, General Needs has distributed over 10,000 pairs of boots, over 9,000 coats, 55,555 pairs of socks, and 3,300 pillows to needy veterans. The organization also provides underserved veterans with bedding, furniture, houseware and appliances.
