Pink Party raises over $8,000 for cancer support and awareness
An outpouring of community support at Montana Brothers in Freeport on Thursday, May 15 for the ‘Pink Party’, a cancer support and awareness effort, made the event into a fundraising success story, raising $8,037 in support of the 1 in 9 / Hewlett House Foundation.
Organized by Emma Pilato, a senior at Mepham High School and an intern in State Sen. Steve Rhoads’ office, the event was held during Women’s Health Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting the well-being of women and spotlighting critical health issues like breast cancer.
“This was more than just a fundraiser—it was a dream come to life,” said Emma Pilato, the event’s chairperson. “Seeing hundreds of people, including so many breast cancer survivors, come together in support of Hewlett House was overwhelming in the best way. I’ll carry this experience with me forever.”
The Pink Party welcomed hundreds of attendees, with an uplifting atmosphere powered by multiple DJs, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and heartfelt stories of survivorship and strength.
“Emma’s passion was the heart of this event. She and Rhoads have shown they don’t just talk about supporting women’s health—they live it,” said Geri Barish, founder of the 1 in 9 Foundation. “Their meaningful actions show a deep commitment, and we’re incredibly grateful for their partnership. They inspired us all, young and old, to take action.”
The 1 in 9 / Hewlett House Foundation has been providing free support, education, and a sense of community to cancer patients and their families for over two decades. The funds raised will go directly toward continuing their mission.
