Veterans Trees to benefit LI State Veterans Home
Veterans Trees have been set up at all four Smithtown libraries so people can donate needed items for the residents of the Long Island State Veterans Home in Stony Brook.
The Christmas trees will be up through November and visitors are asked to donate scratch-off lottery tickets, earphones, gloves, scarves, gloves, hats, sweatshirts, sweatpants, new DVD movies, crayons, coloring books and puzzle books to put under the trees.
The four Smithtown libraries are located at 3 Indian Head Road in Commack; 1 Church St. in Kings Park; 148 Smithtown Blvd. in Nesconset; and 1 North Country Road in Smithtown.
The Long Island State Veterans Home opened its doors to its first residents in October 1991. Located on the campus of Stony Brook University, the Veterans Home is a 350-bed skilled nursing facility that provides round-the-clock nursing and sub-acute care to veterans of the United States armed forces.
The mission of the Long Island State Veterans Home is to provide the highest quality and most comprehensive healthcare services to Long Island’s veterans, and to serve as a model site for research, and the education and training of tomorrow’s long-term care and geriatric professionals, according to its website.
