Green Acres was the place to be…for free turkeys

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, the Green Acres shopping center gave back to the community with its annual turkey giveaway.

The Valley Stream retail complex hosted the giveaway of 1,000 traditional, kosher, and halal turkeys to local families in need.

The event, on Wednesday, Nov. 19, was supported by more than a dozen elected officials, over 20 local community-based organizations, law enforcement officials, civic leaders, Green Acres employees and volunteers.

With food insecurity on the rise, Green Acres made it a top priority year after year to ensure local families in need can celebrate Thanksgiving with a turkey.

“The Green Acres Gives Back Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway is a shining example of how our community comes together with compassion and purpose,” Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages said. “During this season of gratitude, I’m proud to stand with Green Acres and our local partners to ensure families across Elmont, Valley Stream, and surrounding neighborhoods can celebrate Thanksgiving with warmth, dignity, and hope.”

Valley Stream Mayor Ed Fare said: “As we enter into the season of giving, we are ever-mindful of the needs of many in our community that will benefit from the extra support we can provide. Thanks to Green Acres and the Macerich organization, there are countless Valley Stream families that will have a wonderful and delicious turkey at this year’s Thanksgiving table. We are very happy to do our part in village government to get these turkeys to the families that need them the most.”
