Huntington to unveil Bald Eagles of Centerport sculpture

An unveiling event for a bronze sculpture erected in tribute to the bald eagles of Centerport will be held this Saturday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Mill Dam Bridge in Centerport.

Created by local sculptor Shawn McAvoy, the striking bronze piece celebrates the extraordinary presence of Centerport’s famed bald eagles, whose daily flights over the Mill Dam Bridge have captivated residents, veterans, photographers, and wildlife enthusiasts alike.

The artwork is the centerpiece of a new landmark honoring the original “Dad Eagle” who attracted countless bird watchers and quickly became a symbol of resilience, unity, and local pride.

The event will feature special guests Bobby Horvath and Cathy St. Pierre of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation nonprofit WINORR, who will be joined by Montana, a rescued bald eagle, to offer attendees a unique and up-close educational experience.

Photographers from the Bald Eagles of Centerport community will also be on site with calendars available for purchase.
