Melville law firm’s charitable foundation offers holiday pies to seniors in need
Cona Elder Law and its charitable foundation, Senior Dreams Come True, hosted its third annual ‘Holiday Pie Donation’ at the Bay Shore offices of Family Service League (FSL) on Friday, Dec. 19, giving out 60 holiday-flavored pies to be delivered to FSL clients.
“As an elder law firm, we meet with families from all different walks of life and we help them plan for the future,” said Melissa Negrin-Wiener, managing partner, Cona Elder Law. “Just to be able to give back to the community is so important and is such a big part of what we love to do.”
The event, in partnership with The Elija Foundation, brings together two nonprofit organizations to benefit a third at a time of year when many people report both food insecurity and economic challenges in providing the most basic holiday meal.
“Everyone deserves a little slice of heaven, a little piece of cheer,” said Reese Smith, event and outreach manager for The Elija Foundation. “A piece of pie can always put a smile on somebody’s face.”
Apple, pecan and pumpkin pies were baked and packed at Elija Farm in South Huntington, a nonprofit serving differently abled individuals and children with autism. The pies were driven to Family Service League’s Bay Shore office, where they were picked up by social workers to be delivered to clients at their homes.
“We serve a lot of underprivileged individuals and families,” said Melissa Coscia, assistant VP of programs for Family Service League. “We are so grateful to have received this donation and to give a little bit of normalcy to the families that maybe can’t afford to have a pie for the holiday.”
