Molloy University awarded 2026 Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement

Molloy University has earned the 2026 Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement, a national designation that recognizes institutions demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to meaningful community partnerships, civic engagement, and service-learning initiatives.

Molloy is one of only two colleges and universities on Long Island and the only private institution on Long Island to earn the designation.

“This recognition affirms what has long been at the heart of Molloy’s mission—education rooted in service, compassion, and real-world impact,” said James Lentini, president of Molloy University. “Our students, faculty, and staff are actively engaged in addressing community needs while preparing graduates who are both career-ready and civically minded.”

The Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement is awarded following a national review process that evaluates how institutions collaborate with local, regional, and global communities through teaching, research, and service.

Molloy’s community engagement efforts include service-learning embedded across academic programs, clinical placements and internships, faculty-led research addressing community challenges, and strategic partnerships with schools, hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and local agencies.

The Carnegie Foundation’s Community Engagement Classification is conferred every five years and is considered one of the highest recognitions of an institution’s commitment to public service and reciprocal community partnerships.
