Adelphi Breast Cancer Program receives grant for health services

The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program received a grant from the Beth C. Tortolani Foundation, allowing the program to provide free social work services to help women overcome barriers to care.

The services include bilingual counseling, patient navigation at local hospitals and referrals to community agencies that provide assistance with food, transportation and legal services. The grant will also help facilitate a Spanish-language support group called Cafecito, which will meet twice a month in Westbury.

“Our licensed social workers offer free bilingual counseling to breast cancer patients treated at Nassau University Medical Center, as well as those referred from other local hospitals,” says Reyna Machado, assistant director of the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program.

The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program provides live chats with licensed social workers and support groups, in both English and Spanish, as well as referrals to free or low-cost mammography screenings.

The Beth C. Tortolani Foundation supports and organizes programs and services that provide resources, knowledge and skills to women with breast cancer and their families in order to enhance the quality of their lives.
