Long Island contractor donates roof for Habitat for Humanity home in Wyandanch
King Quality Roofing and Siding will donate and install a roof for a new Habitat for Humanity of Long Island home in Wyandanch on Tuesday, June 10, helping a single mother move closer to her dream of owning a safe, affordable home.
Lakeitha, who currently shares a single bedroom and bed with her two young children, will be moving with her family into a new home at 19 Chestnut Street. Lakeitha works as an MTA bus operator and plans to pursue a nursing degree.
“Habitat is a dream come true for my family, and the thought of being able to provide a safe, affordable shelter for my children warms my heart,” Lakeitha said. “Sharing a bed makes it hard to get decent sleep, but our future is bright.”
As part of the program, Lakeitha will complete 300 hours of “sweat equity,” contributing to the construction of her home and others. She’ll also take financial and home maintenance classes, volunteer for community service, and sign a 30-year mortgage at an affordable interest rate, with Habitat holding a second mortgage.
On May 13, King Quality joined other local businesses for Habitat Long Island’s annual CEO Build to kick off construction of the Wyandanch home. This year’s event was dedicated to the memory of President Jimmy Carter, whose decades-long support of Habitat inspired millions.
The Wyandanch home marks the 10th roof King Quality has donated to Habitat for Humanity of Long Island. The effort is part of King Quality Cares, the contractor’s philanthropic program supporting nonprofits and community organizations on Long Island. King Quality and GAF are donating the roofing materials.
“We’re grateful to our partners at Habitat Long Island for the opportunity to help create a home for Lakeitha and her children,” said Jeff Brett, CEO of King Quality. “From the local businesses that came together to support this build to the future homeowner’s commitment to giving back, this project is a powerful example of what we can achieve together on Long Island.”
