LI elder law firm launches first-of-its-kind caregivers support group

Melville law firm Cona Elder Law has announced the launch of “Caregivers Circle,” a new caregivers support group providing a safe, supportive space for those navigating the emotional and practical challenges of caring for an older adult on Wednesday, March 4.

According to the AARP, over 500,000 seniors over age 75 live on Long Island, many of whom are being cared for primarily by an adult child who is often balancing their own children and other responsibilities.

The initiative, the first of its kind offered by a Long Island law firm, is intended to support adult caregivers of the elderly emotionally, educationally and practically.

“Our goal with Caregiver’s Circle is to create a trusted, recurring community of support for loved ones who are navigating the complexities of elder care,” said Jennifer Cona, founder and managing partner of Cona Elder Law. “We want to connect with caregivers earlier in their journey, deepen those relationships over time by providing meaningful support, and position ourselves as a long-term partner and resource — not just legal counsel.”

According to the firm, each 60-minute session is structured around a 30- to 40-minute guided conversation, where participants are invited to share their stories, challenges, concerns and expectations. Sessions conclude with a discussion on self-care, including reflective questions and practical next steps to help elder caregivers prioritize their own well-being.

The March launch series will include expert-led sessions: Wednesday, March 4 will be led by Jillian Viup, LCSW, at Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center (LIAD). Additional sessions will be led by Alison Fenech, MSW, of MJHS Health System and Dawn Hagen, LMSW, of Parker at Your Door/Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care.

The sessions led by guest presenters will also offer special enrichment experiences, including guided meditation, sound baths, guided breathwork, Tai Chi and interactive vision board workshops.

The in-person program will meet monthly, with up to four sessions per month as groups fill. Each session runs from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Groups will be filled to capacity before opening additional sessions, and enrollment is limited to ensure meaningful participation. Interested elder caregivers are encouraged to register early to secure a spot in the Wednesday, March 4 launch group.

Cona Elder Law is located at 225 Broadhollow Road, Suite 200 in Melville.
