Human services nonprofit named NBA Foundation grant partner

SCO Family of Services, a Long Island- and New York City-based human services provider, has been selected as a grant partner by the NBA Foundation to support young adults through SCO’s Youth Workforce Initiative at its Brooklyn Youth Center, offering access to career pathways for at-risk, runaway and homeless, and system-involved youth.

“Thanks to the NBA Foundation’s generous support, young people can overcome barriers and take meaningful first steps toward sustainable employment,” said Suzette Gordon, president and CEO of SCO Family of Services. “This partnership strengthens our work and amplifies the potential of youth who deserve every opportunity to succeed.”

While many young adults are eager to work, significant barriers often stand in their way, including missing identification, lack of credentials, unstable housing, and even the basic costs of transportation to interviews and training.

“Through this grant round, we’re proud to support SCO Family of Services and their work in providing essential services throughout New York,” said Ruth Jurgensen, executive director of the NBA Foundation. “SCO’s community-based programs lead to direct impact for youth as they pursue their career and educational goals.”

The NBA Foundation funds programs that support young people as they transition from school to employment, with a focus on organizations in NBA team markets. The foundation invests in partnerships and grants that advance job readiness, skills training, job placement, and career development. SCO Family of Services is one of 92 new grantees to partner with the NBA Foundation.
