Molloy University program for 5th graders earns national award
Molloy University’s Rising Star Program has been named a recipient of the 2026 Civic Engagement and Community Service Award from Insight Into Academia magazine.
The program is an educational initiative supporting local Title I school districts through a five-week summer camp and year-long academy for rising 5th graders from the Roosevelt, Rockville Centre and Freeport school districts,
The award, presented by Insight Into Academia, honors institutions demonstrating excellence in volunteerism, advocacy, public education, civic participation, voter engagement, and community collaboration. Molloy will be featured alongside 51 other honorees in the April 2026 issue.
“The recognition from Insight Into Academia for our work in community engagement affirms the transformative impact our students and staff are making every day,” said James P. Lentini, president of Molloy University. “This honor celebrates not only the Rising Star Program, but the spirit of service, compassion, and excellence that defines Molloy University.”
Hosted by Molloy University in partnership with local school districts, the Rising Star Program connects rising 5th grade students with Molloy student mentors for guidance as they transition to middle school.
