NICE Bus donates $14K in food and cash to Island Harvest

To address food insecurity during the upcoming holiday season, NICE Bus has donated more than $14,000 in food and cash to Island Harvest.

At the conclusion of a two-week campaign prior to the Bethpage Annual Turkey Drive, which supports Island Harvest, NICE (Nassau Inter-County Express) delivered 10 pallets of canned and dried goods–enough to fill 37 full shopping carts – that was donated by NICE employees as well as NICE Bus riders through collection boxes at its Garden City center and the Hempstead Transit Center.

Additionally, $6,000 in cash was donated by NICE’s 850 employees and $1,000 worth of frozen turkeys was provided as a contribution from NICE.

“NICE Bus and its employees are dedicated to supporting the residents of Nassau County in ways which go beyond just providing reliable and affordable transportation,” Jack Khzouz, NICE Bus CEO, said in a written statement. “Our employees are keenly aware of the struggles some of our neighbors face in feeding their families and they have been supporting the annual Island Harvest drive since we began providing service to Nassau County in 2012.”

Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest Food Bank, said the nonprofit was grateful for the generosity and efforts by NICE Bus.

“It is partnerships like these that allow us to continue to provide food support and vital services to the most vulnerable among us,” she said.
