Applebee’s crushing lemons to put squeeze on pediatric cancer

Several Applebee’s restaurants on Long Island are teaming with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for a #CrushALemonChallenge that raises money to fight pediatric cancer.

The social movement challenges people to crush lemons in creative ways and encourages donations to the foundation, whose mission is to fund impactful research, raise awareness, support families and empower everyone to help cure childhood cancer.

Pediatric cancer, the leading cause of death for children by disease, only receives 4 percent of the annual budget for research by the National Institutes of Health.

From August 16 through Sept. 19, about 20 Applebee’s restaurants owned and operated by Doherty Enterprises in Nassau and Suffolk counties, will be inviting guests to donate online via Instagram and Facebook to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand. Applebee’s also hosted National Lemonade Day on August 20, where a portion of all lemonade and $5 Mucho Summertime Sips purchases went to the foundation.
