PSEG Long Island celebrates Good Samaritan Day
PSEG Long Island celebrated Good Samaritan Day, Friday, March 13, by recognizing the hundreds of company employees who help enhance their communities throughout the year.
From January through December, PSEG Long Island’s Community Partnership Program connects employees with opportunities to support their neighbors where they live and work.
Last year, nearly 900 employees volunteered more than 8,000 hours to help dozens of nonprofit organizations, according to PSEG Long Island. They participated in fundraising walks and runs, collection drives, distribution programs and other events to support food insecure and unhoused neighbors, assist veterans and seniors, battle against disease and illness, provide mentoring, help preserve the environment, and more.
“As the most reliable overhead electric service provider in New York State, PSEG Long Island makes communities physically stronger by storm hardening the circuits that serve them, while our employees bolster the bonds of community through their volunteerism and generosity,” said Scott Jennings, PSEG Long Island’s president and COO. “On Good Samaritan Day — and every day — I am thankful to be surrounded by such dedication to the people we serve.”
Meghan Chambers of Massapequa, Gary DeFelice of Smithtown, Zach Elkort of New Hyde Park, Karen Mowbray of Patchogue and Danielle Neff of Farmingdale all volunteered at one of several distribution events for veterans held last fall. For Good Samaritan Day, some of these community champions shared what it means to them to support their neighbors.
“My dad was a veteran, so giving back to those who served has always been close to my heart, said Chambers, a senior office support clerk at PSEG Long Island. “Veterans have sacrificed so much for our country and supporting them is one small way to show our appreciation. I am grateful to work for a company that values community and encourages us to give back.”
DeFelice, a lead customer operations analyst at PSEG Long Island, said Volunteering gives a real sense of purpose because it allows him to give back to the community.
“It’s especially meaningful to work for a company like PSEG Long Island, that truly supports and encourages employees to make a difference beyond the workplace,” he said.
“I enjoy giving back to the community and am happy to work for a company that supports its employees in doing so,” said Elkort, an estimator at PSEG Long Island. “My company’s support for local veterans has inspired me to get out and do my part to help them.”
Mowbray, PSEG Long Island Measurement Services dispatcher, said she usually volunteers at veterans’ events and it’s always a great experience.
“Their appreciation is overwhelming, and I leave these events with a warm heart knowing we made their day a little better,” she said.
“I enjoy volunteering as it gives me an opportunity to make a positive impact in my local community – both where I work and reside,” said Neff, PSEG Long Island lead marketing program manager. “I am very grateful that PSEG Long Island provides these opportunities for its employees and encourages us to get involved all year round.”
