Lifelong runner and local resident named 2026 honoree of Howie Levy 5K race

The Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview has named Plainview resident Jeffrey Cohen as the 2026 honoree of the annual Howie Levy 5K, recognizing his more than 13 years of hands-on involvement helping plan and grow the community race.

The race, which will be held on Sunday, May 17, brings together runners, families, and local supporters while raising funds for Mid Island Y JCC camp scholarships and pancreatic cancer research.

“To be acknowledged in this way means so much to me because my contributions have always come from a genuine place of commitment and passion, without expecting anything in return,” Cohen said. “This recognition is not only meaningful to me personally, but it also reflects the incredible group of people I’ve had the privilege to work alongside over the years.”

A Long Island native and Plainview resident of 22 years, Cohen has deep roots at the Mid Island Y JCC, sending his children through its preschool, aftercare, and camp programs, and taking an active role in its athletic and community initiatives. A lifelong runner and former high school cross-country captain, Cohen has competed in races across Long Island, including half marathons and triathlons, and continues to promote wellness as a core part of family and community life.

Beyond the 5K, Cohen has served as a PAL basketball director and coached multiple youth sports in the Plainview area. Professionally, he has worked in pharmaceutical sales for nearly 30 years and is also the founder of a local home inspection company.
