Massapequa school to host Special Olympics Spring Games
A school in Massapequa will host the Special Olympics Spring Games next month.
The event will be held on Saturday, May 2 at the Berner Middle School at 50 Carman Mill Road in Massapequa.
The games will include a full day of competitive track and field events for over 700 athletes supported by more than 300 coaches. The athletes, children and adults with intellectual disabilities, have dedicated months to train for the Olympic-style competition that will culminate with the contest during these Spring Games.
“We are honored to host the Special Olympics New York Spring Games and to partner with Special Olympics New York and the Town of Oyster Bay to make this event possible,” said Superintendent of Massapequa School District Dr. William Brennan. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and community to witness firsthand the power of sports to inspire, unite and celebrate the abilities of all individuals.”
Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. For more information, visit the school district’s website at www.msd.k12.ny.us to see how to get involved in volunteering or sponsorship opportunities.
