Brightway marks National DSP Week with special events

Brightway Living & Learning, formerly named Developmental Disabilities Institute, celebrated National Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, Sunday, September 13 through Saturday, September 19 with a series of special events, including a barbecue for staff.

“As we celebrate National Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, we recognize our DSPs for their vital role in our organization,” said Kim Kubasek, CEO of Brightway Living & Learning. “Their extraordinary dedication empowers the people that we support to live the life they choose and keep moving forward.” 

Earlier this year, Brightway was a participant in New York State’s #MoreThanWork recruitment campaign addressing the shortage of DSPs that is affecting human services organizations across the state and nation. The campaign seeks to connect potential job candidates directly to opportunities supporting New Yorkers with developmental disabilities across the state.

“This is not just a job, but a calling to help others be a part of their communities as neighbors, co-workers and friends,” said Willow Baer, commissioner of the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities. “I am grateful today, and every day, for the dedication and skill of direct support professionals across New York State.”
