Latino Young Professionals launch expanded fall programming

After Latino Young Professionals (LYP) of the East End concluded a successful summer season, the group is launching its expanded fall programming to support high school students across the region.

LYP is launching a comprehensive suite of virtual and in-person resources for the fall, running from mid-September through December 2026. The fully virtual College Application & Readiness Program features a Sunday Workshop Series covering essential topics like the Common Application and how to approach building a college list, alongside a Personalized Essay-Editing Initiative where seniors receive individualized feedback on their personal statements and supplementals from knowledgeable editors.

The fall agenda also features a bilingual Financial Aid Seminar co-hosted with the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC), which will take place on Friday, Nov. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Hampton Library, as well as a year-long resume and cover letter program available to the broader community.

Emphasizing the importance of this expanded reach, cofounder Daniela Chavez said, “One of our biggest goals is accessibility. After hosting in-person workshops two years in a row, we redesigned our College Application & Readiness Program to be fully virtual, including our Sunday workshops and essay-editing support. Students across the entire East End, especially on the North Fork, won’t have to travel long distances to receive the help they need.”

Founded in 2024, the collective continues its mission to connect and empower Latino students and young professionals on the East End through mentorship, guidance, educational and professional opportunities, and community-building, helping ensure that pathways to academic and professional growth are accessible close to home.

“We created LYP because we wanted to build the kind of community we wished we’d had growing up,” said co-founder Nicole Velez. “It is built on the belief that none of us has to figure everything out alone, and that somewhere nearby, there’s always someone willing to listen, help, encourage, or open a door.”

To learn more about the collective or explore opportunities to volunteer as a mentor, editor, or community partner, please contact LYP directly at [email protected]. Local high school seniors interested in attending the virtual Sunday Workshop Series can register for individual sessions through the Linktree in the LYP Instagram bio (@lyp_eastend) or via QR codes in the collective’s social media posts.
