Medieval History Day coming to Farmingdale
The Village of Farmingdale is hosting its third annual Medieval History Day next month.
The free event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 3 at 361 Main St.
Wearing medieval clothing, the Canton of Lions End, the local Society for Creative Anachronism group, will perform demonstrations and displays of some skills, as well as arts and crafts.
The fighters and fencers will show off their prowess and their armor and tournament participants will choose a child in the crowd to champion and token prizes will be given to the winners of the tournaments.
Artisans will display their work and give children and their parents hands-on time to explore their crafts. Attendees can learn how to write in medieval fashion and what calligraphy entails, how embroidery was done, and how glass beads were made in the Middle Ages.
Participants can also play games that were created hundreds of years ago and there will also be several merchants selling items relevant to the modern Middle Ages, such as hand-made soaps.
The annual Farmingdale Fire Department Spring Street Fair will also take place the same day. Medieval History Day is planned in conjunction with the Farmingdale Village Cultural Arts Committee. The rain date for the event is Saturday, June 10.
