Farmingdale Village to host Medieval History Day and street fair
The fifth annual Farmingdale Medieval History Day returns to the Farmingdale Village Green next month.
The free event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 7. It features people wearing medieval clothing of different centuries performing demonstrations and displays of some skills, as well as arts and crafts.

Fighters and fencers will show off their prowess and their splendid armor (internal rules forbid audience participation in the fighting, but they can answer questions). Artisans of all sorts will display their work and give children and their parents hands-on time to explore their crafts. Learn how to write in the medieval fashion and what calligraphy entails, see how embroidery was done and how glass beads were made in the Middle Ages. Play games that were created hundreds of years ago but are still fun to play today.
“Being of Viking descent myself, I’m intrigued,” said Farmingdale Village Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.
On the same day, the 12th annual Farmingdale Fire Department Spring Street Fair will be held along Main Street from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fair features vendors, the New York Islanders Road Crew, a ninja exhibit, fire department open house with demonstrations, music, dining and more.
The rain date for both events is Saturday, June 14.
