Long Island gas prices lower than last summer

The average price of gas on Long Island is 17 cents lower than it was this time last summer.

Long Island gas prices have fallen 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.81 per gallon Monday, according to a GasBuddy survey of 1,158 stations.

That’s 5.3 cents lower than it was one month ago and 17 cents lower than this time last year. July is the most popular month for Americans to go on vacation, according to Gallup.

Gas prices have been trending lower since May, when the average on Long Island reached almost $3 per gallon. The national average has risen 2.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.75 per gallon, 11 cents lower than last year.
