Six ways your business can do the right thing
You’ve revamped your sales team, upgraded your offerings with new products, and improved efficiency while keeping a tight rein on expenses. In fact, your company has been doing everything to move business forward.
But what is it doing to give back?
Here are six ways your company can get involved with nonprofits to help make an impact on Long Island all year long.
Feed the hungry
Collect non-perishable food and bring it to a local food pantry or hunger-fighting nonprofits like Island Harvest and Long Island Cares. In addition to collecting food, these organizations can also use helping hands. Recruit a team of employees to assist in stocking shelves or distribute food to pantry clients.
You don’t have to be a trained carpenter to assist on a build site. Assemble volunteers to join a construction crew and help build a home (or make repairs for needy homeowners) for nonprofits like Habitat For Humanity and Long Island Home Builders Care.
Out of the closet
Collect gently used coats and other clothing to donate to organizations like Dress for Success Brookhaven, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, and local chapters of Vietnam Veterans of America, Goodwill and the Salvation Army.
Get in the game
Find a local youth sports team to sponsor. This is a great way to show community support while gaining valuable exposure for your brand displayed on uniforms and banners. Indoor sports facilities like Long Island Sports Hub are also a good place to start.
Walk the walk
Becoming a sponsor or supporter of events for a cause is another high-visibility way for your business to do the right thing. Throughout the year there are dozens of walks, runs and charity events in the area that raise money for worthy causes, such as the Long Island Breast Cancer Walk, the Long Island Heart Walk, the Marcum Workplace Challenge, the Long Island Fight for Charity and many more. Besides sponsoring, your business can provide branded t-shirts to participants and donate supplies like water or snacks.
The BIG check
Probably the most popular way to give back is to just give. Money, that is. Every nonprofit and charitable organization needs cash and they usually welcome any size donation. It will likely be put to good use, even if it’s as little as a few hundred dollars. Of course, the best part about giving money is the photo of the big check presentation, which websites like the Long Island Times loves to feature.
And whether it’s a big check, volunteer work, sponsorships, food collection, or other donations that your business is giving, let us know so we can let everyone else know, too.
