Long Island musicians to livestream virtual gig

Stay-at-home music fans missing their fix of live performances can enjoy one online Thursday, courtesy of two Long Island musicians.

Kenny Friedman and Tommy Williams, two members of the popular band Wonderous Stories, will take to Facebook Live to present a virtual gig from Friedman’s living room in Huntington.

The audience for the performance on March 19 at 8 p.m. will also be able to support the pair by donating to a virtual tip jar via Venmo and PayPal.

“As I’m sure you know, the COVID-19 situation has created a huge problem for local musicians and other “gig economy” workers,” Friedman wrote on the Facebook events page. “The wages have stopped, yet the bills keep a -comin’.”

Friedman and his cohorts, who usually grace the stages at live music venues like KJ Farrells in Bellmore, The Warehouse in Amityville and Plattdeutsche Park in Franklin Square, have had all their shows cancelled due to COVID-19 fears and the need for social distancing.

Friedman has performed through Facebook Live before, usually during snowstorms that also cancelled gigs at area clubs. He’s hoping to make Thursday’s show, where the talented pair will take requests, the first in a series of Facebook Live music events to entertain fans and keep the tunes (and tips) flowing.
