Babylon launches banner program to honor veterans

Banners featuring the names and photos of military service men and women from the Town of Babylon will adorn local streets next year.

The program, a partnership between the town and the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst, was the brainchild of two mothers of active service members who pitched the idea to Babylon officials.

Applications for the program will become available in January, with banners hanging between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day. The banner will cost $200, with a portion of the proceeds going to a veterans-related charitable organization, according to a town statement.

In addition to the banner that will hang outside, program participants will also receive a 4-inch-by-6-inch print of the banner, a digital version, and the chance to share a story about the service member to a page on the Town of Babylon and Lindenhurst Kiwanis websites.
