Revolving sushi concept coming to Long Island

Kura Sushi, a Japanese restaurant chain that features a revolving sushi bar, plans to soon open its first Long Island location.

The company is slated to open a restaurant this month in the Country Glen Center at 47 Old Country Road in Carle Place.

Kura Sushi’s operation relies on automation, where food from the kitchen travels to tables via a conveyor-belt system. A delivery robot, programmed by human servers, brings drinks.

A Japanese animation appears on a tableside tablet for every five plates inserted into tableside slots, and for every 15 plates inserted, guests receive a prize from a prize system located at each table.

Founded in Japan, publicly-traded Kura Sushi has its U.S. headquarters in California. The company has more than 500 locations worldwide, including nearly 50 in the U.S. The chain is also planning to open a new restaurant in Flushing later this summer.
