Dental clinic provides complimentary dental services to veterans on LI
In honor of Veterans Day, Dental365 hosted its annual Free Day of Dentistry for Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 9, offering complimentary dental care to veterans across multiple locations throughout the Northeast. The clinic provided free comprehensive examinations, cleanings, fillings, same-day crowns and emergency services by dentists, specialists, hygienists, assistants, and support staff on a volunteer basis.
“I remember when I was in dental school, veterans were not embraced the way they should be and fortunately that’s changed,” said Dr. Frederick Seltzer, a dentist participating in the event at the local Garden City office. “Some veterans have financial issues and when you start to triage what you have to spend on a monthly basis, sometimes dental health falls by the wayside.”
More than 100 veterans visited Dental365’s five participating offices for the event, including in Mt. Sinai and Garden City.
“This was much needed because I just chipped an old filling,” said Albert Hoyte, a retired National Guard member from Hempstead. “For the past year I haven’t had dental coverage, so this is a blessing.”
The program began as a grassroots idea from a longtime team member whose father, a veteran, struggled for years to access affordable dental care. Since then, the clinic network has expanded the Free Day of Dentistry across multiple states, partnering with vendors such as Henry Schein and other dental suppliers to provide materials. Each year, veterans come in for everything from cleanings and x-rays to extractions and deep cleanings—often their first dental visit in years.
