Girl Scouts of Suffolk County honors more than 190 scouts with Silver Award
The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County hosted its annual Silver Award ceremony and breakfast on Saturday, March 28, at the Stonebridge Country Club in Smithtown, honoring more than 190 Cadette level Girl Scouts for actions that benefit their community or address a critical issue.
“Girl Scouts who earn the Silver Award develop leadership skills like time management and problem solving, as they build meaningful relationships that support their future success,” said Tammy Severino, CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “It’s all a part of the journey as Girl Scouts learn the skills they need to make a difference, today and tomorrow.”
Each year, Girl Scouts in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in Suffolk County earn their Silver Awards by dedicating over 50 hours creating and implementing sustainable change on issues they feel passionate about.
Among the Girl Scouts honored was Troop 3092 from the Half Hollow Hills Central School District. “We as Girl Scouts and members of the community are extremely grateful for this opportunity, and we hope to continue to help the people around us and, in the world,” said Neela Ramachandran, a member of Troop 3092.
The troop’s projects encouraged people to unplug their devices and engage their senses to create meaningful connections through nature, creativity, and open conversation. “We recognized the growing concern around media consumption and wanted to create a place to escape the virtual world,” said Sarah Raje, another member of Troop 3092.
