Grounds for expansion: Pilar Coffee opens in Roslyn
Pilar Coffee Bar has opened its first Long Island location at Bryant Plaza in Roslyn Heights, the first of three cafés the fast-growing brand has planned for the region.
The coffee shop occupies roughly 2,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space at 333 Warner Ave., the mixed-use building that sits directly across from the Long Island Rail Road’s Roslyn station.
Two more Long Island cafés are in the pipeline. A location at 1968 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport, in the Elwood area, is expected to open later this summer, and a third is planned for 8 Wall Street in Huntington Village, in the building that for more than four decades housed the pub Christopher’s.
The chain was founded by Steve Giordanella, a Brentwood native who runs ABC Franchise Group and has been part of the ownership group at the Inn at New Hyde Park for about 15 years. The concept debuted in Deerfield Beach, Fla., in December 2024, and the company is headquartered in Boca Raton. The name comes from the middle name of Giordanella’s wife.
The Long Island stores are Pilar’s first outside Florida. Each is franchised and locally owned and operated, according to the company, which has said it intends to open 11 new locations by the end of 2027, including sites in Coral Springs and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
The menu includes specialty lattes, iced coffee and cold brew made from a proprietary blend of mountain-grown beans harvested in Brazil and Colombia, along with hot and iced teas, juices, made-to-order sandwiches, salads, artisanal pastries and gelato. The company has said it is not building drive-thrus into its current model, citing the time required to prepare food to order.
Bryant Plaza opened in 2025 after a roughly $30 million construction project by JK Equities. The 100,000-square-foot building holds 54 one- and two-bedroom rental apartments above 6,600 square feet of retail, plus on-site parking.
The building’s retail is now fully leased, with Pilar joining CorePower Yoga and Roslyn Nail Salon & Spa on the ground floor.
