Girl Scouts of Suffolk County host trivia night and earn Winter Olympics patch

Girl Scouts of Suffolk County brought the spirit of the Winter Olympic Games to Long Island last week as local Girl Scouts earned a brand-new 2026 Winter Olympics patch during a trivia night at the organization’s headquarters in Commack.

The girl scouts explored the legacy of women in the Olympic Games and celebrated today’s top athletes during an interactive trivia session where they learned about the women who paved the way in winter sports and discussed current stars Mikaela Shiffrin, the alpine skiing champion known for her dominance in slalom and giant slalom; Chloe Kim, snowboarding superstar; Kaillie Humphries, elite bobsled pilot; Breezy Johnson, world-class downhill skier representing Team USA; and figure skating standout Kamila Valieva.

“The athletes seem really confident, like they can do anything,” said Vicky Galeas, 11, from Greenlawn, who has been watching the Olympics on TV. “It makes me feel like I can do anything I put my mind to, too.”

The girls also shared their favorite winter Olympic events, with figure skating, bobsledding and downhill skiing topping the list.

“Learning about the women who have broken barriers in the Olympic Games helps our girls see what’s possible in their own lives,” said Tammy Severino, president and CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “Whether they dream of competing on the world stage or leading in their own communities, Girl Scouts gain the confidence, knowledge and courage to pursue their goals.”
