LI LEGO social group creates opportunities for neurodivergent children

Block Buddies, a new bi-weekly LEGO social group at Block Party in Levittown is designed specifically for neurodivergent children ages 7–12.

Rather than focusing on therapy or academic instruction, Block Buddies centers around something many children already love: building with LEGO bricks.

Through guided activities, collaborative challenges, creative building, and free play, participants are given opportunities to practice communication, teamwork, problem solving, and friendship building in a low-pressure environment designed to meet children where they are.

“LEGO provides a natural way for children to connect,” said program leaders Olivia and Sarah, experienced educators with backgrounds in special education. “When children are building together, conversations happen naturally, confidence grows, and friendships begin to form.”

Each session includes themed activities and collaborative builds designed to encourage participation while allowing children to engage at their own comfort level and pace.

“We wanted to create something that feels different,” said Block Party representatives. “A place where children can come as they are, share a common interest, and leave feeling successful, included, and excited to come back.”

Block Buddies currently serves children ages 7–12 and meets bi-weekly at Block Party in Levittown.

Sessions are $39.95 per participant and include a take-home LEGO build.
