Catholic Charities of Long Island tees up and serves for Long Islanders in need

Catholic Charities of Long Island (CCLI) is inviting friends, supporters, and community leaders together again for its 24th Annual Golf Classic and Pickleball Tournament on Monday, October 5 at The Muttontown Club in East Norwich.

This year, CCLI is honoring Deacon Michael Monahan of Tri-Parish Beach Catholic and a member of CCLI’s Board of Directors for his years of dedicated service, leadership and commitment to faith and community. Since March 2019, he has served the parish communities of St. Ignatius Martyr, St. Mary of the Isle and Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, and has served as a deacon for the people of the Diocese of Rockville Centre since May 2011.

“We are especially proud to honor Deacon Michael Monahan this year,” said CCLI board chairman, William Ayers. “He has spent his life answering the call to serve others, and he brings that same spirit of compassion, faith and generosity to his work on behalf of Catholic Charities. He is someone who truly leads by example, and we are grateful for all he has done for our parishes, our community and CCLI.”

Proceeds from this year’s event help support CCLI’s work on behalf of individuals and families across Nassau and Suffolk counties who are facing difficult times.

“For 24 years, this event has been about so much more than a great day on the golf course or pickleball court,” said Michael Smith, CCLI president and CEO. “Every dollar helps Catholic Charities of Long Island continue providing critical support to individuals and families facing some of life’s greatest challenges. We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to stand with us in our mission to restore dignity, create meaningful opportunities, and bring hope to those who need it most.”

Registration and breakfast begin at 9 a.m. for both the pickleball tournament and the golf classic. Golfers will tee off in a shotgun start at 11 a.m. A pickleball workshop will take place at 10:30 a.m., followed by a clubhouse lunch at 12 p.m. Tournament pickleball play is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. All are welcome to a cocktail hour at 4:30 p.m. and reception to follow at 5:30 p.m.
