Warrior Ranch Foundation celebrates 10th anniversary with “A Decade of Donors” benefit

Long Island nonprofit Warrior Ranch Foundation marked a milestone on Sunday, Oct. 4, as  supporters, veterans, first responders, volunteers, and community members gathered in Calverton for the Foundation’s 10th Anniversary Benefit.

The event celebrated “A Decade of Donors” and honored the late Allan Curran, a loyal supporter of the ranch and its mission. Curran’s stepson, Bob Cutler, accepted the honor in his memory.

Foundation President Eileen Shanahan presented special recognition plaques to government officials and representatives whose support played an important role in establishing Warrior Ranch Foundation at its Calverton home on the site of the former Long Island Beagle Club, and expressed her gratitude toward community partners that have helped and funded the foundation since its beginning.

“None of what we have accomplished over these past 10 years would have been possible without the  extraordinary support of our donors and volunteers,” Shanahan said. “They believed in this mission when it began in my backyard, and they have continued to believe in it as we have grown. Every hour volunteered and every donation has helped us rescue horses, serve our veterans and first responders, and create a place where people can find connection, purpose, and a sense of peace. We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped us get here, and we look forward to continuing this mission together.”

Looking toward the ranch’s future, Shanahan announced plans for a memorial brick plaza in the front yard of the clubhouse and recognized a stand of apple trees that were planted in Curran’s memory. A commemorative plaque bearing the names of the ranch’s founding donors was unveiled during the celebration.

Guests at the event were treated to an arena presentation showcasing the horses and people at the heart of the ranch’s mission. Gina Lamb and Chocky of Iron Horse Fields performed in the arena, joined by Josephine Smith riding River and Juliette Hackett presenting Sully, two of the rescued horses currently making their home at Warrior Ranch Foundation.

Live music throughout the celebration was provided by local band Who Are Those Guys, and a buffet luncheon was provided by CJ’s American Grill of Mattituck, along with wine, beer, and other beverages donated by Long Island wineries and beverage supporters.

During the program, Shanahan shared a special recognition from U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino  (NY-02), showing guests a folded United States flag that had been flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of Warrior Ranch Foundation and its mission serving veterans and first responders.

The foundation also received a proclamation from Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney in recognition of its 10th anniversary and service to the community.
