Developer floats grant for Hampton Bays students

Students in the Hampton Bays School District have a new course of study, thanks to a grant secured by one of Long Island’s largest real estate development firms.

Rechler Equity Partners just announced that a $10,000 grant from the Workforce Development Institute was awarded to the Hampton Bays schools to create an educational hospitality program.

The program is designed to provide training and educational experiences that prepare students for careers at hospitality venues like the Canoe Place Inn, which Rechler Equity Partners is in the midst of restoring in Hampton Bays.

The restoration will transform the Canoe Place Inn into a 350-seat catering venue, including a 90 seat restaurant/tap room, 20 guest room suites and five cottages for event guests and area tourists. It’s expected to open in the fall of 2020.

Besides helping to launch the hospitality training program, Rechler Equity Partners recently awarded Hampton Bays High School seniors with a $500 Rechler Equity Partners Science Scholarship and two $500 Canoe Place Inn Hospitality Scholarships. Starting next year, Rechler Equity will be increasing the number of Canoe Place Inn Hospitality Scholarships offered from two to three in addition to doubling the amount of the scholarship to $1,000.
