Did you know?
In 1655, a handful of land-speculating colonists purchased much of the Setauket area from the local Setalcott Indians. The region’s first European settlers were English migrants from New England. Captain John Scott, a mercenary hired to clear out the Native Americans, temporarily renamed the Setauket settlement Ashford in the 1660s.
