Autism-staffed firm supplies Discover Long Island with new merch

In coordination with Autism Awareness Month, Discover Long Island has unveiled three new apparel products supplied by Spectrum Designs, a Port Washington-based business whose workforce is comprised of Long Islanders on the autism spectrum.

The three new products, which sport the “Where I BeLONG” tourism logo from Discover Long Island, are a hooded sweatshirt, hat and dog bandana. The new dog bandana is Discover Long Island’s first pet-focused promotional product and part of a larger collection soon to be announced in partnership with America’s VetDogs, a Long Island-based nonprofit organization that trains and places guide dogs and service dogs with disabled veterans.

The new merchandise is designed, printed, packaged and shipped by Spectrum Designs, which has previously produced the marketing organization’s “Where I BeLONG” crewneck and “Hot Teas Podcast” tank top.

“While creating walking billboards with quality branded apparel is a time-tested marketing strategy, creating meaningful partnerships with organizations that share our values and help us illuminate the character of our community, remains key to our success,” Discover Long Island President and CEO Kristen Reynolds said in a written statement.  “Now more than ever, people are shopping with intention and like to wear brands that they have a positive association with and are transparent about their efforts to do good. Quality products that showcase and support the local, diverse, and socially conscious businesses across our destination, not only benefits our brand but truly uplifts the entire community – while giving residents, visitors, and ex-pats more motivation to demonstrate their Long Island pride.”

Spectrum Designs Co-Founder and CEO Patrick Bardsley said the company is privileged to collaborate with Discover Long Island all year ‘round but especially during Autism Acceptance Month.

“They are a valued partner helping to further our mission of creating neurodiverse employment opportunities,” Bardsley said in the statement.  “Their ongoing support has been instrumental in driving positive change for individuals with different abilities across our community. We are grateful to them for making such an impact and creating an exemplary cycle of positive change across the Island.”
