Glen Cove swim raises $950K for cancer research
Over 250 swimmers participated in the 25th annual Swim Across America – Nassau/Suffolk Long Island Open Water Swim on Saturday, August 2 at Pryibil Beach in Glen Cove. The event raised $950,000 for cancer research and care, contributing to a cumulative total of over $15 million since the swim began.
The funds support several regional institutions, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medicine, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Feinstein Institute at Northwell Health, MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, and SHARE Cancer Support.
This swim is one of three events hosted by Swim Across America in the New York metropolitan area this summer, alongside events in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and Westchester County. These local events are part of a national initiative that includes 26 open water swims across the U.S.
Since 1987, Swim Across America has raised over $100 million nationwide to support cancer research and care, helping to fund more than 60 grants annually. The organization’s contributions have supported the development of four FDA-approved immunotherapy treatments.
