Dora the Explorer to headline family fiesta in Uniondale

Optimum and Nickelodeon are teaming up to bring “The Great Dora Fiesta” to Uniondale on Saturday, August 9, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Dora the Explorer.

The free, family-friendly event will take place at the John J. Byrne Community Center starting at 11 a.m., and will feature a variety of educational activity stations designed to help preschoolers build kindergarten readiness skills.

Organized as part of Nickelodeon’s Beyond the Backpack initiative, the event focuses on five core areas of early development: literacy, STEAM, life skills, health and wellness, and family engagement.

Children can explore Isa’s garden to learn about healthy foods, toss bananas with Boots, create their own maracas at Dora’s music table and join a pretend race to a back-to-school celebration. Other stations will encourage kids to pack a healthy lunch, practice greetings in multiple languages and express their emotions through art.

A costumed Dora character will be available for photos and meet-and-greets, with themed giveaways offered to families throughout the event.

The event reflects Optimum’s commitment to education and community engagement across Long Island.
