Town adds EV charging to Ponquogue Beach

Electric vehicle owners can recharge on the East End thanks to two new EV charging stations at Ponquogue Beach in Hampton Bays.

The Type 1 chargers are located in the parking lot next to the newly renovated Ponquogue Beach Pavilion and can support up to four vehicles at a time.

The stations are operated by El Segundo, Calif.-based EV Connect, which won a $4 million contract with the New York Power Authority in 2016 to build 300 vehicle charging stations throughout the state. Users will have to download the company’s EV Connect app and pay an electric use fee in order to charge a vehicle.

Town of Southampton beach parking permits are required to access the areas, which are open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Labor Day.
