Annual car show thrives through thunderstorm

Rain and thunder didn’t stop the Michael Magro Foundation’s annual car show last month at Cold Spring Country Club in Huntington.

The Aug. 19 event showcased more than 100 classic and exotic cars for members of the community to benefit children with cancer and their families.

Founded by Paul and Terrie Magro, the Hicksville-based organization works with local hospitals to help patients and families afford treatment and to help better the lives of kids with cancer and other chronic illnesses. The foundation recently started an initiative called ‘Operation Playcation’ to bring PlayStation 4 consoles and games to pediatric hospital patients.

Event chairs Larry Ruisi and Tom Galati expressed their gratitude for the strong turnout despite the passing thunderstorms.

“We are grateful to the Long Island Chapter of the Ferrari Club of America, Club 3C, and the Mustang Club, as well as members of other clubs that came out to show their support,” Ruisi said. “We are hopeful that car clubs all along Long Island will come out for the 2020 event so this event can continue to grow.”
