Town accepting applications for affordable senior rentals

The North Hempstead Housing Authority is now accepting applications for new apartments for seniors with monthly rents starting as low as $696.

The newly built development, called The Homestead Senior Apartments, feature 77 one- and two-bedroom apartments for income-qualified renters aged 62 and up at 252 Grand St. in New Cassel.

Applications for the apartments will be accepted until Feb. 19. A lottery for the affordable units will be held on Feb. 25.

Redeveloped on the site of the former Grand Street School by Jericho-based affordable housing builder Georgica Green Ventures, The Homestead includes a community room, in-unit laundry and on-site parking. No pets are allowed.

All applicants must meet the income, household size and age requirements for The Homestead, which are available to view on the housing authority’s website.
