Week-long pro bowling event to benefit veterans

Maple Family Centers will celebrate women’s sports while supporting veterans with the Bowlers to Veterans Link Open.

The week-long bowling event will be held at Maple Lanes RVC in Rockville Centre from June 6 to June 12 and includes three Professional Women’s Bowling Association national tournaments, with all proceeds supporting programs for local veterans.

The festivities get rolling on Monday, June 6, with the “Bowl with the Pros” event, during which locals can bowl with the world’s greatest women bowlers.

Then the tournaments begin. First, the PWBA Long Island Classic on June 7 and June 8, followed by the PWBA BowlTV Classic on June 9 and June 10. The top-scoring 24 players from the first two tournaments will advance to the PWBA BVL Classic, scheduled for June 11 and June 12, with the championship matches broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network on Sunday, June 12, from Noon to 5 p.m.

All proceeds from the star-studded event will be donated to BVL, the bowling industry’s oldest charity, to support recreational and therapeutic programs at the Long Island State Veterans Home at Stony Brook University, the Northport VA Medical Center and the St. Albans VA Medical Center.

An all-access pass, which is valid for the entire seven-day event, is available for a $100 donation to BVL.

“We are proud to welcome the world’s top women bowlers to Maple Lanes RVC and to give local bowling enthusiasts the opportunity to witness first-hand the incredible skill level and commitment of these elite competitors,” John LaSpina, president of Maple Family Centers, said in a written statement. “We are equally proud to support BVL and to give back to veterans in our local communities, who have given so much of themselves.”
