PSEG Long Island adds hours and incentives to its food drive

September is Hunger Action Month and PSEG Long Island is providing extended hours and free LED light bulbs at its Power to Feed Long Island food collection drives at area Stop & Shop stores.

Collection hours at the two remaining food collection drives, scheduled for Sept. 2 at the Stop & Shop at 3126 Jericho Turnpike in East Northport and Sept. 19 at the Stop & Shop at 365 Route 109 in West Babylon, have been extended, running from 8 a.m. through 7 p.m. to accommodate additional potential donors.

As an added incentive, LED light bulbs, which save money, energy and the environment, will be distributed to food donors. Reusable shopping bags will also be handed out.

Power to Feed Long Island was created by PSEG Long Island in 2021 as a partnership with Island Harvest to help support neighbors facing food insecurity at a time when the pandemic and rising inflation are straining the inventories of local food banks. It provides Long Islanders with nearby locations to donate food that will be distributed by Island Harvest back into their communities.

The partnership between PSEG Long Island, Island Harvest Food Bank and Stop & Shop supermarkets aims to collect the equivalent of 30,000 meals from July 1 to Sept. 30. As of Aug. 19, the initiative has met 75% of that lofty goal.
