Girl Scouts of Suffolk County donate decorated Christmas trees to charities

The Girl Scouts of Suffolk County donated Christmas trees decorated by local Girl Scout troops to local charities and service organizations here on Monday, Dec. 9, in an effort to bring holiday spirit to people who may be homeless, hungry or battling personal struggles on Long Island. 

The annual “Hall of Trees” event culminated with local charities selecting and picking up the more than three dozen trees that were decorated by Girl Scouts.

The trees were decorated in themes including honoring military members, love of pets, and even some with warm gloves and socks. 

“The girls do a fantastic job every year,” said Jonathan Cruz while picking up several trees for his organization, Community Housing Innovations, which operates homeless shelters across the region. “We tie up the trees and ship them off to the shelters to make sure the clients have the festivities for the holiday. It’s bringing the spirit of the holiday to people who need it.” 

Other Suffolk County service organizations and nonprofits that picked up trees included Long Island Lending a Helping Hand, Family Service League, Shepherd’s Gate, Little Flower,  Pathways to Recovery, and Family Shelter.
