Ronkonkoma contractor to build new Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook
Ronald McDonald House New York Metro recently struck a deal with Ronkonkoma-based Aurora Contractors to construct the new Ronald McDonald House at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, a 60,000-square-foot facility designed to accommodate families of children receiving critical care at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.
“There is no one else we would rather have as a partner on this project,” said Matthew Campo, CEO of Ronald McDonald House New York Metro. “Families in Suffolk County need a Ronald McDonald House to give them safety, comfort, and proximity to their sick children and Aurora will help us to realize that goal.”
The new house will not only be the second Ronald McDonald House on Long Island and the first in Suffolk County; it will also be the second Ronald McDonald House constructed by Aurora. In 1986, the first Ronald McDonald House on Long Island was opened to families in New Hyde Park, serving the families at Cohen Children’s Medical Center.
“When we first partnered with Ronald McDonald House Long Island 40 years ago in New Hyde Park, it was a project we took great pride in,” said Frank Vero Sr., the founder of Aurora Contractors. “To be invited back all these years later to build their next home is truly special. It reflects not just continuity, but a shared commitment to supporting families when they need it most.”
For the past 13 years, Ronald McDonald House New York Metro has been serving families at Stony Brook Children’s through the two in-hospital Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms. The new house, which will be the first Ronald McDonald House in Suffolk County, was designed by BAM Creative and will feature 30 private family suites, communal kitchens, wellness and recreation spaces, and areas designed to foster healing and connection.
Parents staying at the new house will be a short walk to their child’s bedside at Stony Brook Children’s, eliminating the need for frequent or long commutes to and from the hospital.
Construction is set to begin this fall, following the preparation of the 2.5-acre site by Stony Brook Hospital, which is currently underway. The new house is set to open in late 2027.
