Häagen-Dazs opens new store in Oceanside

A new Häagen-Dazs ice cream shop is opening in Oceanside.

The new store is in the Sands Shopping Center at 3567 Long Beach Road.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, preceded by a ribbon-cutting at 10 a.m.

The Oceanside store is the chain’s 12th on Long Island.

To celebrate the opening, the first 500 guests at the Oceanside shop will receive a free mini scoop of ice cream and a peel-off card for the chance to win prizes, including a $500 Häagen-Dazs Shops gift card.

Like the other store in the chain, the Oceanside Häagen-Dazs offers signature ice cream, sorbet, shakes and dazzlers, made with premium ingredients and indulgent toppings.

Founded in 1960 by Reuben and Rose Mattus, Häagen-Dazs opened its first retail store in Brooklyn in 1976. The ice cream maker was acquired by Pillsbury in 1983 and the company was subsequently owned by a few corporations, including Nestlé and General Mills. Häagen-Dazs, which now has more than 900 stores worldwide, is currently part of the English ice cream conglomerate Froneri.
