LI teen and Stop & Shop support Holocaust survivors for Passover
This past weekend, 16-year-old Griffin Tenenbaum, a junior at Merrick’s Calhoun High School, organized a meaningful fundraiser for The Blue Card, the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to providing direct financial assistance and critical support to Holocaust survivors in need.
Spending part of his weekend at the Stop & Shop in Merrick, Tenenbaum thoughtfully selected items and carefully assembled 25 care packages, including: Matzah, gefilte fish, grape juice, cedar plate, tea, kosher for Passover matzah ball soup mix, and candles for Holocaust survivors.
Tenenbaum’s initiative reflects a deep sense of compassion and commitment to honoring Holocaust survivors, while supporting the mission of The Blue Card to ensure survivors feel cared for and connected to the community.
“Since I was five years old, Camp Kinder Ring has shaped my connection to Holocaust survivors, especially through mentors like Mikhl Baran, whose story and message of kindness left a lasting impact on me,” Tenenbaum said. “For my Bar Mitzvah, I chose to support Holocaust survivors, which led me to The Blue Card. Over the past three years, I’ve continued volunteering, organizing fundraisers and care packages, inspired by the strength of survivors and the importance of being an upstander.”
