Riptide partners with Q30 Innovations on safety collar

The New York Riptide, Long Island’s National Lacrosse League home team, is partnering with the makers of a unique safety device.

Q30 Innovations, which invented and manufactures the Q-Collar, is now an official partner of the Riptide. As part of the deal, the company will receive brand visibility during game play and through signage and in-game announcements at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Q-Collar is the first and only FDA-cleared sports equipment that helps protect athletes’ brains during head impacts. The Q-Collar is now available for athletes ages 13 and older who are at risk of brain injury during contact sports.

“Keeping our players safe and healthy is our top priority, which is why we partnered with Q30,” Rich Lisk, executive vice president with GF Sports and Entertainment, said in a team statement. “As we look at different ways to optimize player performance, the most important thing is keeping them in the lineup and on the field. The Q-Collar offers an added layer of protection for our players and we feel lucky to have it.”

Bryce Tolmie, a Hofstra graduate and defender for the Riptide is an early advocate of the Q-Collar’s protective benefits.

“I’m really excited to have been introduced to the Q-Collar and be able to use it,” Tolmie said. “Even in the brief couple of games that I have used it, I have noticed a difference. With all the research the company has done, I truly believe in the Q-Collar.”

Tom Hoey, co-CEO of Q30 Innovations, said the company has seen a lot of interest from lacrosse players at all levels.

“It’s exciting to work with a professional organization like the Riptide that is leading the way for player safety,” Hoey said. “We’re looking forward to working together to help their athletes – and the next generation of lacrosse players they inspire – play more safely and at their optimum.”
