Target to host free Dr. Seuss event Saturday

Kids and fans of Dr. Seuss can celebrate the author’s 115th birthday at Target stores across Long Island this Saturday, Mar. 2.

Target will be hosting free readings of What Pet Should I Get? every half hour from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in honor of the children’s book author’s 115th birthday. Stores will also be giving away free Dr. Seuss swag and offering his books for sale starting at just $3.50.

What Pet Should I Get? was published in 2015, nearly 25 years after Dr. Seuss died. The story was discovered by his widow Audrey Geisel in 2013 with a collection of old sketches and papers, and it is the sixth Dr. Seuss title published posthumously.

Cathy Goldsmith, the designer and art director for his last six books, estimates the book to have been written between 1958 and 1962 because the main characters are the same brother and sister from his bestseller One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

Another manuscript titled Horse Museum was found in the same collection and is scheduled to be released on Sept. 3, 2019.
