Island Hopping

The Long Island events are part of several organized by the UJA-Federation around the New York metropolitan area to help 24 nonprofits carry out more than 60 service projects to help people in New York City, Long Island and Westchester County.

Chef Simona Fabrizio will be in the kitchen at Touch of Venice for the “Flavors of Umbria” event, which features Italian food and wine from the North Fork.

Through the rest of this month, the shelter’s usual adoption fees of $84 per pet will be waived and all usual adoption services will be provided, including the spaying or neutering of the animal, vaccination and microchipping.

Participants can decorate a jumbo gingerbread cookie at the village’s gingerbread workshop and try their hand at historic crafts like paper piercing and making a tassel doll.

The Equity First Foundation and its Holiday Dreams team will collect toys, clothing, gift cards and money donations at the free party.

The Museum of American Armor at Old Bethpage Village Restoration is hosting the day-long exhibit on Sunday, Dec. 15.

The 14,000-square-foot center, called Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center, is the brainchild of Beth Stern and her radio host husband Howard Stern, who were also the main supporters in developing the facility.

The Long Island Nets will honor local veterans at its second annual Military Appreciation Game on Sunday, Nov. 17, which will also raise money for a nonprofit that helps Long Island homeowners in need.

Urban Air Lake Grove, a unique indoor adventure park, features several high-flying attractions for both kids and adults.

A holiday concert featuring some of Long Island’s top musicians will also offer a visit from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame’s mobile museum.

The event will have a dozen panel discussions with professional journalists from Long Island and the New York metropolitan area.

Organized by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization, the festival, which runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 8, is in its 40th year.
